The London International Wine Fair, now in its thirty-first year
has always been a useful barometer for trends in the UK and
international wine trade, with a line-up of industry briefings and
masterclasses offering insights into the ever-changing marketplace.
The Top 100 tasting, introduced in 2005, is at the forefront of
exploring these trends, with previous years' themes including rosé
and organic and biodynamic wines. This year's Top 100 features not
just one, but five different trends identified by The Wine Gang and
LIWF organisers as being the "ones to watch" for 2011.
The Wine Gang have selected the LIWF Top 100 for the past two
years, and this year will be joined by two new members; Jane
Parkinson, former deputy editor of the drinks business,
and David Williams, deputy editor of World of Fine Wine, and
columnist for the Observer. The themes of the tasting, which have
been selected with a view to providing an insight into current
trends, as well as providing an exciting line-up of wines to appeal
particularly to on-trade and independent retail visitors, are as
follows: Aromatics, The Pinots, Rhône Varietals around the World,
Natural, Organic and Biodynamic, and Surprising Wines.
The Top 100 is a perennial favourite among visitors to the Fair,
and takes the format of a free-pour tasting, featuring wines at
various price-points, representing both the Old and New World, all
selected on the basis of overall quality, consistency, and value
for money.
Will Broadfoot, marketing director for the London International
Wine Fair, commented: "One of the key benefits of the London
International Wine Fair is that it offers the global wine trade a
snapshot of trends for the year ahead. This year the Top 100 will
reflect five diverse trends relevant to all sectors, and we are
delighted to continue our partnership with The Wine Gang, and
welcome on board its new members."
The Top 100 tasting will be located at the east end of the
ExCeL, throughout the 2011 LIWF, which takes place from 17th to
19th May 2011.
